The aircraft starter AS-1 was built in 1936 on the base of GAZ-AA truck. The standard cargo platform of the truck was slightly moved backwards to place the fuel pump with the elevated pipe. Due to fact that engines were installed at different height above the earth, the upper conic gear could be turned on with the help of telescopic device with lever gear. As soon as the speed of airscrew rotation exceeded the trunk's rotation, the trunk was automatically unplugged and pulled back. The aircraft starter AS-1 was used until the late 1940's.
