764 functional BMP-1s became a property of the Federal Republic of Germany's Bundeswehr after Germany reunification. The original plan for these vehicles was to be retained in service for a limited time, until the new Marder-2 IFV became available in large numbers. In 1993-94 500 of these modified vehicles were transferred to the Hellenic Army. The remaining 264 vehicles were transferred to the Swedish Army. |
